Our solid wood worktops are made from wood that forms part of the recycle chain by finger jointing smaller sections into the larger panel. This is a tough, durable manufacturing process used in all solid wood worktops making the unique and attractive rhythmic patterns of this natural, long lasting and beautiful product. This process shows the natural features of the wood which in some grades, contains knots and has natural colour variations. We supply the boards un-treated so you can add different tones with oils or we have our own recommended oil ordered online.
The top face is free of defects; natural wood, and minor processing defects are permitted on the underside. The blank board is delivered un-treated so that you can customise to your actual requirements. Selffit cannot be held responsible for the effect of ill treatment or unsuitable customisation. The staves that go into producing our boards are specially selected to feature the natural wood grain. Staves are the sections that make up the board at 40mm thick.
Technical
- Sanding: Faces are sanded to a minimum 120 grit.
- Lamination: Two component, thermosetting emulsion adhesive - Type used is class D4 for exterior purposes. Adhesive conforms to low formaldehyde requirements. Staves are 41mm (Natural) width which gives the best possible aspect of the wood at the same time as maintaining strength & stability properties.
- Moisture Content: Average 8-10%.
- Stave width: 40mm
Finish.
You can finsh these boards in whatever shape you like. They will arrive with square fronts and you can router a decorative shape, groove or finsh or simply sand donw to the roll off you desrire. Should you damage free worktop or dent and scratch, simply sand donw the area affected and loose the cratch coating it again afterwards. This is the beauty of a natural material, when you use the surface it tells a story of the work you have done and you can choose to leave the knocks and scrapes or repair them.
